A male driver was airlifted and in a critical condition after being trapped in a vehicle following a rollover on Arnhem Highway around 8am on Sunday, St John Ambulance said.

Two people were in the vehicle during the single-vehicle rollover but the passenger was not seriously injured, St John Ambulance NT operations manager Craig Garraway said.

“A person there had been trapped in that vehicle for some time and was transported to the Royal Darwin Hospital in a critical condition by the CareFlight helicopter,” Mr Garraway told ABC Radio Darwin Monday morning.

Meanwhile, he added that on Saturday morning, one person was taken to hospital after being involved in a two-vehicle collision on the corner of Bagot Rd and McMillans Rd.

He said one of the drivers in that incident was also trapped inside their vehicle.

And on Friday night in Karama, paramedics responded to a 16-year-old who was bitten by a snake around 11pm on Friday.

“[It’s an] unusual time and obviously an unusual location, but snakes are out and about at the moment,” Mr Garraway said.

He said the female teenager is currently recovering in hospital.
