A pair of teenagers armed with a machete allegedly robbed a retailer of adult toys in Stuart Park on Sunday evening and attempted to holdup a motorist at a nearby intersection, NT Police said.
Around 8pm on Sunday, the duo entered Sexy Land Store in Stuart Park with one of the males armed with a machete, NT Police Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Len Turner said.
“Both of these offenders had their faces covered and threatened the sole staff member that was there, he somehow managed to lock himself in the rear room, and the offenders then attempted to open the cash register,” Sgt Turner told ABC Radio Darwin Monday morning.
Sgt Turner said the robbers also threatened another staffer then left after a short time.
He did not mention if there were any injuries or what the robbers took from the store.
“We believe that the offenders were involved in a second incident where five minutes later, two males attempted to forcibly enter a vehicle that was stopped at the traffic lights at the Westralia St intersection,” Sgt Turner said.
The attempt was unsuccessful, and when the driver drove off the offenders ran off as well, he added.
Police located one of the offenders who they identified as a 14-year-old male. He has been taken into custody, and Sgt Turner said they “believe he’ll be facing some charges, sometime later on today”.
Authorities are still looking for the other teenage alleged offender who remains at large.
Anyone with information about the teen is being asked to contact police.
