An alleged Darwin drink-driver who was clocked going 45km/h over the posted speed limit along Bagot Road while weaving in and out of traffic on Wednesday afternoon has been arrested by police.

Police allege the 39-year-old man was going 120km/h in the 70km/h zone along Bagot Road at 1:40pm.

Police commenced a pursuit through Ludmilla, The Narrows, and Winnellie in an effort to stop the man. NT Police said the driver narrowly missed another vehicle on Stuart Highway and The Narrows and they decided to call the pursuit off at the Airport Gates.

A short time later, authorities sighted the vehicle on Amy Johnson Drive. Police followed the vehicle and the driver was later apprehended in Leanyer, NT Police said.

The man was tested for alcohol and returned a positive reading of 0.145 BAC.

He faces multiple traffic charges including exceeding speed limit by over 45km/h, driving vehicle recklessly, and driving medium range blood alcohol content.

The man is scheduled to appear in Darwin Local Court on September 3, 2020.

No accidents occurred involving other road users on this incident, Senior Constable Kevin Carr said.
