Former Barkly Regional Council member Noel Hays, who quit council because of its dysfunction late last year, has called on Local Government Minister Chanston Paech to sack the council, following the latest controversy of a video showing the Mayor Jeffrey McLaughlin holding down a child while another man threatened to kill him.
The council has been embroiled in chaos since at least May last year, with more than 100 staff leaving in 2022 under former chief executive officer Emma Bradbury, allegations of bullying and mismanagement by her, a bungled investigation of a sexual harassment claim made by a young woman in a remote community, the mayor being accused of breaking the confidence of staff complaining against the CEO, and a failure by members to investigate workers’ complaints.
Is anyone claiming that the Mayor plucked this kid of the street and dragged him back to his property and sat on him?

Is anyone claiming the young man was not breaking into the Mayors house?

Then its a citizen arrest of someone found on someonelse’s property!

Seems that no one cares at all about his criminal acts.
The lesson he’ll learn is that whenever caught breaking the law, play the victim and you’ll get away with it. That poor kid has no future due to the terrible attitudes of his family and others who seem to want to excuse his actions.
He was a loving, contented happy family member as is always repeated like a cracked record. Too bad the family didn’t sort him out years ago and lead him in a direction of a ‘model citizen or at least something similar rather than a crim needing a good smack in the ear and sitting on.
