Alice Springs Town Council have voted to appoint Jamie de Brenni as the interim acting principal member and Jimmy Cocking as deputy following the resignation of mayor Damien Ryan and deputy mayor Matt Paterson to run in the NT election.

The Town Council voted at a meeting on Thursday night and chief executive officer Robert Jennings said the men would start in the positions immediately and would remain in the jobs until the election results were formally determined.
He said if Mr Ryan and Mr Paterson were not elected to the Legislative Assembly they could be reinstated to their council positions if they applied to Mr Jennings.

But if they won the election or did not apply for their old jobs back Mr de Brenni and Mr Cocking would stay in the jobs until the next local government election on August 28, 2021.
