UPDATED: Airnorth is launching direct flights between Cairns and Alice Springs, with an undisclosed subsidy from taxpayers, while tickets started being sold on Monday for the first flight on April 14.
The service will operate three times a week using Embraer jets holding 100 passengers. One-way fares will start at $299, which the government hopes will benefit the long-struggling Central Australian tourism industry.
