An 18-year-old Tennant Creek man has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman in a street earlier this week, NT Police said.

The man was arrested yesterday and is accused of physically and sexually assaulting the woman on Paterson Street in Tennant Creek on Tuesday night. It was unclear if the two knew each other.

Police did not provide any more details about the alleged incident or the health condition of the woman.

“Investigations by members of the Tennant Creek Investigations Unit resulted in the swift arrest of the man yesterday afternoon,” the police media unit said in a statement.

“The offender was taken to the Tennant Creek Watch House where he is expected to be charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of sexual intercourse without consent.”
