Your chance to make the Northern Territory better

Your chance to make the Northern Territory better with the NT Independent

by | Jun 24, 2021 | Opinion | 0 comments

The NT Independent is looking for passionate Territorians who want to make the NT a better place, and have some time and skills to donate to help make that happen. You can be involved. Become part of the paper as we look at how we can transition to a community model. An independent newspaper by the people, for the people – owned by the community.

We are setting up a volunteer committee to help with our operations, which could be set up formally if that is the will of the people. You don’t have to be a journalist, we are looking for support in many areas.

It may be to help with administration, marketing, advertising, social media, becoming the letters to the editor co-ordinator, taking photos or anything else it takes to run an online independent news outlet.

You can help to make the Territory a healthier, more functional version than it is now. And help hold the government and government agencies to account.

Additional benefits for those who have dreamed of being on the inside, is the possibility of hearing snippets of stories before they are published, or the real story behind the story, or being tasked with some private eye work to break the next big story.

This is your chance to be involved and put your positive mark on the Territory.

Stop whinging on Facebook about the state of the place and get aboard the NT Independent train, running express to utopia.

The NT Independent has been funded privately by one family to contribute to a better Territory, and we need community support to make sure it continues. We will be transitioning to a community model for the benefit of the whole community.

“We think we’ve had a positive outcome on the Territory in our first year of existence and we’re hoping that continues,” editor Chris Walsh said. “We always had the vision of being an online platform for great investigative journalism that is connected to the community it serves. This is a great opportunity to be a part of what we’re doing and we’re going.”

And trust us, there is more to come.
