A woman was taken to hospital after being allegedly stabbed with a knife while standing on the Daly St median strip, in Darwin city on Friday afternoon, NT Police have said.

Police Commissioner Jamie Chalker said police were looking for witnesses to the attack which happened at a non specified time on Friday afternoon.

He said the 35-year-old female victim was allegedly attacked with a knife on the median strip on Daly St, near the intersection of Smith and Cavanagh streets, with the woman being taken to Royal Darwin Hospital.

The Serious Crime Squad is investigating Mr Chalker said, but he did not say if they had any suspects.

He called for people who were in the area between 4 pm and 5 pm, to provide information by calling 131 444.
