Woman hospitalised after hit and run during fighting in streets: Police

Fighting in the street with weapons, led to an alleged hit-and-run in Palmerston, with a man expected to be charged over the incident, NT Police have said.

In a statement Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Day said.that at about 9:30 pm Monday police were told of a “commotion” on Cornwallis Circuit, in Gray, which involved multiple people fighting with weapons.

Snr Sgt Day said a 31-year-old woman was hit by a vehicle driven by a 30-year-old male amid the turmoil, and the driver drove off before later handing himself into police.

The victim was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Snr Sgt Day said.

He gave no further details of how many people were involved in the “commotion”, what weapons were being used, and if there were any injuries.

“Investigations into both the disturbance and hit and run are ongoing with detectives from Serious Crime expecting to charge the 30-year-old later today,” Snr Sgt Day said.
