A woman has died in a two-vehicle collision on the Stuart Highway, approximately 20 km north of Ti Tree on Thursday night, NT Police said.

Police received reports of the collision between a van and a Troop Carrier around 8:15pm. Emergency services quickly responded, where an adult female occupant of the van was pronounced dead at the scene.

The female driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to Alice Springs Hospital by Careflight, while three passengers in the Troop Carrier sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were also taken to Alice Springs Hospital.

Police did not say what they believed caused the fatal crash.

Lives lost on Territory roads now totals 31, down from 51 during the same period last year. Last year’s final road toll reached 60.

Stuart Highway is currently closed in both directions as Detectives from the Major Crash Unit conduct an investigation at the scene.
