A woman has been killed after being thrown from a ute in a single vehicle crash on the Victoria Hwy on Thursday, NT Police said.
Superintendent Daniel Shean said in a statement that about 4pm Thursday police received reports that a Toyota Hilux carrying two women crashed at Gregory, around 15km east of the Victoria River Roadhouse on the Victoria Hwy.
He said both women were thrown from the ute, with a 41-year-old declared dead at the scene, while a 39-year-old was taken to Katherine District Hospital with non life threatening injuries.
The highway was still closed with traffic restrictions in place at 9am Friday, whilst the crash is being investigated, police said.
Supt Shean said the woman was the 30th person to die on Territory roads this year.
Police are asking anyone who saw the vehicle or the occupants just prior to the crash to call them on 131 444.
