A 33-year-old woman has died near Katherine overnight, which NT Police are investigating as a case of suspected domestic violence.

Police and paramedics were called to an incident in a community near the town around 11pm, with the woman dying at the scene an hour later, police said.

“Officers located an unresponsive woman, who had allegedly been involved in a fight with a female relative,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Lawson.

“Paramedics commenced CPR, but unfortunately the 33-year-old woman died at the scene just after midnight.”

It was unclear what transpired in that hour from when police arrived to when the woman died.

“The case is being treated as a family violence incident and investigations are ongoing,” Snr Sgt Lawson said.
