A woman has drowned after being found unresponsive in a body of water near the airport in Rapid Creek, NT Police said.

Police and St John Ambulance were called to the undisclosed scene around 3pm Friday afternoon where the woman, aged 56, was found unconscious in the water.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Details of how the woman came to be in the water were not disclosed and police have not said if they are treating the death as suspicious.

“The woman could not be resuscitated,” a brief statement said. “A report will be prepared for the Coroner.”
