NT Police are calling for witnesses to an alleged “number of disturbances” at bars in the Darwin CBD Friday night, allegedly caused by the Mongols Motorcycle Club whose members are in town for its national run.

“Police are requesting assistance from the public regarding an assault of two males that occurred within the Monsoons Nightclub shortly after 3am [Saturday morning],” said NT Police media manager Rob Cross in a statement, without providing any details.

“NT Police are continuing a highly visible operation around Darwin and surrounds in response to the congregation of members of the outlaw motorcycle gang.”

Earlier in the week, police launched Operation Lune to monitor the activities of members of the Mongols motorbike gang who were gathering in Alice Springs in preparation for their national run up to Darwin, while the alleged national president of the gang was arrested at the Darwin airport Tuesday morning.

Gold Coast-based bikie Nick ‘The Knife’ Forbes, who is allegedly the national president of the Mongols, was arrested on Tuesday at the airport on outstanding warrants dating back eight years, including for an alleged assault on a rival Hells Angel member at Discovery nightclub in 2014.

His lawyer claimed he was in town to surrender himself voluntarily on the outstanding warrants, ahead of the birth of his child, which was disputed by the NT DPP who alleged he was in town for the run and a club annual meeting.

He was arrested and first refused bail on Wednesday, but later granted bail on Friday under the condition that he immediately leave the Territory and only return when mandated by the court.

NT Police, who set up checkpoints for the run between Alice Springs and Darwin, alleged on Saturday night that three people connected to the gang had this week been issued notices to appear for “drug-related matters including drug driving and possession”.

“Police take a proactive approach to engaging with these gangs and have conducted vehicle checkpoints in Alice Springs and Noonamah over the past two days,” Mr Cross said.

“Police will continue to engage with gang members to ensure the safety of riders and the wider community. ”

He added that anyone with information about the alleged assaults at Monsoons on Friday night “should call NT police on 131 444 or you can report anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000”.
