Police are looking a man who robbed a woman in a Coconut Grove street after chasing her with an “edged weapon”, and who later stole her car, NT Police said.

Police director of communications Mark Wilton said in a statement that about 9.10pm Tuesday police were told of a “male youth” allegedly threatening a 43-year-old woman with an edged weapon on Progress Drive in Coconut Grove.

“The victim fled from the offender who chased after her, causing her to drop her handbag containing personal items. The offender allegedly stole the bag and fled the scene,” Mr Wilton said.

“Police attended and while taking a statement from the victim, she identified a red Suzuki Swift driving past as allegedly belonging to her.

“Police followed the vehicle and found it abandoned in Litchfield Court in Nightcliff. The offender remains outstanding.”

Mr Wilton said the woman was not injured.

Police are also investigating burglaries on the same night around Easther and Craig Crescent, Coconut Grove, in which small items were reported stolen but do not know if the incidents are linked.

Police are asking anyone who saw the robbery, or who has dashcam or CCTV footage, to phone them on 131 444, (quote reference P24219131), or make make an anonymous report by calling Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or report it through the website.
