Police broke up a fight involving about 20 people on an Anula Street on Tuesday night, some of whom were armed with machetes, and one with a rife, while one man has been charged as a result, NT Police said.
Police director of communications Mark Wilton said in a statement that about 8pm Thursday, there were multiple reports of a fight involving about 20 people on Union Terrace in Anula, with reports some were armed with machetes, and one person was armed with a rifle.
He said police dispersed the group and identified “a person of interest” with an 18-year-old man arrested a short time later at a house in Elsinore Court, Anula.
Police said a stolen air rifle was seized from the house and the man has been charged with, among other things, three counts of aggravated assault, one count of going armed in public, one count of pointing a firearm at a person, and one count of trespassing.
The man is in custody and police said he would appear in Darwin Local Court at an unspecified later date.
Police are asking anyone with information of the fighting, particularly if they have CCTV, to call them 131 444 (quote reference NTP2400079446), or make an anonymous report by calling Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or through the website.
