A 36-year-old woman has been charged with murder after allegedly stabbing and killing a 26-year-old man with an edged weapon in the Palmerston suburb of Gray last week.

Yvonne Lalda appeared in Darwin Local Court today by videolink charged with one count of murder.

It was reported that around 8:10 pm last Thursday, police received a report that a man had been assaulted with an edged weapon on Priest Circuit. A 36-year-old woman, known to the victim, was arrested at the scene.

Paramedics who rushed to the scene unsuccessfully tried to revive the man. Detectives from Major Crimes later described the crime as a ‘domestic violence incident’.

“This is a tragic incident and police would urge anyone experiencing domestic or family violence to reach out on 131 444 or in an emergency call triple-0,” Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Morrissey said.

Mr Morrissey said anyone experiencing domestic violence should immediately report the incident to the police.

The case was adjourned to August 17. A bail application was not made.
