The NT Independent published a list late last month of the top 100 companies that bagged the biggest contracts in terms of value from the NT Government since the coronavirus pandemic began in 2020 – this time, we look at which companies won the most government contracts overall, with engineering services and consultancy firms dominating the top 10.
GHD bagged 32 contracts since the pandemic began, based on the latest available data. It is the only company the NT Government has awarded over 100 tenders since 2013.
The multinational firm, which has a Darwin office and provides engineering, architecture, environment and construction services, won contracts totalling $8.015 million.
Downer Edi Works Pty Ltd, a professional engineering services company, comes in second place with 26 contracts worth $39.9 million. Downer Edi Works, a subsidiary of infrastructure developer and defence services provider Downer EDI Limited, is also the highest money earner in the top ten awarded contracts.
Cardno (NT) Pty. Ltd., another engineering services firm with an office in Darwin, comes in third place securing 24 contracts totalling $2.8 million. Cardno (NT) Pty. Ltd. is part of the Cardno Group, which recently sold its Americas and the Asia Pacific consulting divisions to Stantec Inc.
Rounding out the top five were engineering services firm Aurecon Australasia and multinational professional services firm Deloitte Touche Tohmnatsu that bagged 22 contracts each. Aurecon’s contracts amount to $3.3 million, while Deloitte amounts to $7.8 million.
In sixth place is KMPG that also secured 22 contracts for a total of $5.3 million. KPMG is also a multinational firm, with a local office providing auditing, tax and consulting services.
International engineering and consultancy firm Jacobs Group comes in 7th with 21 contracts worth $3.4 million.
Also in the top ten are Scott Hammet Building & Carpentry Pty Ltd, with 18 contracts totalling $17.3 million, and consultancy firm Simon Byrne with 17 contracts worth $3.7 million.
Last on the list is Sterling NT, the only NT firm making the top ten of most awarded contracts. Sterling NT, which provides maintenance services, bagged 17 tenders for a total of $2.6 million.
