Want to be blacklisted by Government? Join the NT Independent

by | Jul 2, 2020 | News | 0 comments

The NT Independent, the media outlet that has the Chief Minister running from its questions, is looking for a journalist to don a fake moustache and accent to attend press conferences for us before they themselves are banned and become the target of Labor Government black ops against them.

The NT Independent launched at the beginning of April on the platform that independence is crucial to providing Territorians with unfettered access to news without outside influence. Diversity in media is important and we aim to deliver that to Territorians.

This has worked so well the Gunner Government banned us on a whim.

We get no official government information, are ‘officially’ banned from government press conferences based on a questionable legal argument that hasn’t been explained, banned from having our questions answered by both ministers and the apolitical public service, and even the executive of the NT Police has blacklisted us.

Now that is independence.

We are a news outlet that will not accept Government advertising.

Lucky we are fed on a rich diet of public service whistleblowers and information from the community, who like us, want to see integrity restored to government and the public service.

We are working hard on that.

This is a job for a journalist who doesn’t need to be liked. A journalist who wants to become a persona non grata as decreed by the beacons of light for transparency and accountability, the NT Labor Government.

A journalist who doesn’t need a government response to verify information.

Your new chair*. We find sitting in it facing the computer is more effective. * Seating conditions may vary dramatically from those advertised.

If you like awkward silence when you enter rooms, Chief Ministers who run from you, and being shunned by the political elite class then this is the job for you.

However the NT Independent will not be held responsible when Labor set their backroom black ops goons on you.

You need to be disquisitive, skeptical and analytical, and even curious. You need to be authentic and form good relationships with people. You will need to call people and be good at talking. It helps if you are not agoraphobic. Socially awkward is acceptable.

All the regular cliches about being a self starter, hard working, a passionate self promoter, working to deadlines, blah, blah, blah – you get it.

The NT Government bans news website NT Independent because of an anti-ALP Facebook page run by its owner.

We do take what we do seriously and you will be joining a team that works to unearth what the government does not want the community to know.

We want to expose corruption, malfeasance and incompetence wherever we find it, and to help drag the Northern Territory kicking, screaming, swearing and bribing to greater accountability and transparency.

We have a desk in a donga at East Arm waiting for you along with a bright future that will see you completely unemployable in this town again.

If you have always wanted to practice unrestricted, real journalism contact NT Independent editor Chris Walsh at christopher.walsh@ntindependent.com.au
