Nearly 400 people in Katherine were scanned last week by police using metal detecting “wands” that led to 20 “positive indications for weapons”, NT Police said.
The operation led to five arrests and the seizure of two machetes, more than a dozen pairs of scissors, a screwdriver, a knife, a single bullet and 71 litres of alcohol.
OMG I hope one person is wanding while a second person is collecting all the hastily dumped dumped knives, box cutters and scissors nearby!!!!
The police should have the wands as standard equipment and no restrictions on when and where they can be used.
