NT Police has suppressed the theft of an NT Fire and Rescue Service firefighting ute, that sources have said was believed to be stolen by members of the Peppimenarti-based Jovi Boys, three days after the Police Commissioner and the Territory Response Group visited the remote community to crack down on the gang.
A video of the stolen grassfire unit Land Cruiser ute was posted on social media with the backing track of U Don’t Want It With Us by Red Diamond. It appears to have since been deleted.
Sounds like the Cop’s visit to Peppi was a publicity stunt. The ankle monitors are a waste of money if police resources cannot manage infringements. Obviously they are only passively monitored and do not raise a high enough level of alert when a breach is committed.
