UPDATE: A 20-year-old man has been detained by police in connection to the death of an 18-year-old whose body was discovered early Saturday morning on the driveway of a Palmerston home, NT Police said.
The man was reportedly “assisting police” with their investigation into the death of the man, after police made an appeal for public assistance.
Police reported that they were notified of an unresponsive adult male found on the driveway near the intersection of Driver Avenue and Waterhouse Crescent.
Responding police officers declared the man deceased and a crime scene was established.
“An initial examination of the deceased identified head trauma and the death was treated as suspicious,” said Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Paul Morrissey on Sunday.
“The male has since been identified and family notified and the investigation is in its infancy.”
An autopsy was expected to be completed on Sunday.
Investigators, who were trying to retrace the victim’s steps, held that the time of death was between 12am and 6:15am on Saturday.
“Detectives are still investigating,” Snr Sgt Morrissey said. “Police are urging anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour in Driver overnight [Friday], particularly if you have dash-cam footage, to make contact on 131 444. Please quote reference 10138849.”
