Police used tyre spikes to stop a stolen car officers had chased along two highways, and then tasered the driver after he failed to “follow directions” after pulling into a Humpty Doo property, NT Police said.
Detective Sergeant Dale Motter-Barnard said in a statement that about 1pm Tuesday the dog operations unit, Strike Force Trident, and Darwin traffic operations officers began a car chase of a stolen vehicle after seeing it being driven erratically on the Stuart Highway at Knuckey Lagoon.
He said that “a short time later”, Strike Force Trident officers deployed tyre spikes about 25km away on the Arnhem Highway, with the alleged offender pulling into a random residence at Humpty Doo after driving over them.
The driver “failed to follow directions” and was tasered while he was still in the vehicle, and was then arrested, Sgt Motter-Barnard said.
Police did not give the man’s age, nor what he was charged with but said he would face court at a later date.
“The driving we saw on Tuesday was incredibly dangerous and could have easily resulted in injuries or death,” Sgt Motter-Barnard said.
