Two youths released after ‘senseless violence’, alleged attempted robberies in Darwin

Two female teens arrested for allegedly attempting to violently rob four women in the Darwin CBD and sending two women to hospital have been released, while an older teen was taken into custody for her role in the “senseless violence”, NT Police said.

Police said the two 16-year-olds and an 18-year-old attempted to rob the women in three separate incidents “in quick succession” around 10:40pm Sunday night.

One of the robbery attempts resulted in two women being taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with minor injuries.

Police said the girls were arrested on Sunday night “a short time later”.

One 16-year-old was released without charges “to be summonsed at a later date” and the other was charged with an unrelated break-in and granted bail, police said.

The 18-year-old was charged with two counts of assault with intent to steal, two ocunts of aggravated assault, one count of aggravated robbery and was also charged with an unrelated unlawful entry charge. She was to appear in local court today.

“This senseless violence is completely unacceptable, police will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety of our community,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland.
