Two 16-year-old males have been arrested and charged in relation to 17 reported burglaries that occurred between 8am on October 30 and 4:30am the following day, NT Police said, with the teens bailed to appear in court.

Police said of the 17 burglaries across seven Alice Springs suburbs, five reports involved commercial properties and 12 involved residential.

The details of the crimes were not disclosed in a police statement about the arrests, nor were the charges. Police said only that the pair have been charged with “multiple property and vehicle offences”.

The teens were bailed and are expected to appear in Alice Springs local court on Friday.

“Further youth offenders have been identified and enquiries are continuing,” said Acting Superintendent Michael Fields.

“This type of senseless offending has no place in our town and a reinvigorated Operation Drina will see an increase in proactive high visibility policing across Alice Springs.

“Reducing recidivism is one of our main priorities and we will continue our coordination with other agencies to ensure there are appropriate pathways available to these youth.

“Anyone who witnesses crime or anti-social behaviour is urged to make contact on 131 444.”
