Two people were assaulted in the yard of their Alice Springs property by a large group of people, NT Police said, an attack which happened in the same short industrial street as an aggravated burglary of a business the night before.
Police director of communications Mark Wilton said in a statement that just before 9pm Thursday a large group of alleged offenders entered the yard of the Fogarty Street, Ciccone property and confronted the pair.
“The offenders assaulted the victims before fleeing the location in a white Toyota Land Cruiser troop carrier,” he said.
Mr Wilton said a 27-year-old man suffered significant facial injuries and was taken to Alice Springs Hospital, while a 33-year-old woman suffered minor injuries.
On Thursday NT Police had put out a press release about an business on Fogarty St, Ciccone, being burgled on Wednesday night by four people.
They said the offenders got into a key cabinet containing multiple sets of keys to onsite vehicles, but left when police and security guards turned up.
However they later returned to the business and stole a silver Isuzu ute, along with additional sets of keys, ramming through a gate to get out, and they were not caught by police.
NT Police made no public connection between the burglary and the assaults.
