Two men have been charged over an aggravated burglary of an Alice Springs business over the weekend, NT Police said.

Police director of communications Mark Wilton said in a statement that about 2.15am Saturday, police received reports that two men had broken into the IGA supermarket on Flynn Drive in Gillen.

“The offenders damaged external windows and doors while attempting to gain access to the premises, and caused further damage internally once access was gained. A large quantity of alcohol was subsequently stolen,” he said.

Mr Wilton said police arrested a 24-year-old man found hiding in a roof cavity while a 29-year-old man, who ran off, was arrested at a home a short time later.

Both have been charged with aggravated burglary, damage to property, theft, and going equipped for theft, and were remanded to appear in court on Tuesday.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them on 131 444 (quote reference NTP2400044386) or make and anonymous report through the Crime Stoppers website or by calling on 1800 333 000.
