Two drunk drivers arrested overnight Sunday, including another car sent into a building

NT Police said they responded to two alcohol-related road incidents overnight where one rolled into a building and the other crashed into a fence.

Police Watch Commander Bruce Payne said around 8:15pm on Sunday duty officers responded to a collision in Jingili, where a car had rolled into a building.

“The 41-year-old driver was arrested, and she returned a high-range reading of .243 per cent,” Cdr Payne told ABC Radio Darwin Monday morning.

“She was also unlicensed, there was no damage to the vehicle, and she was taken to the watchhouse overnight.”

Cmdr Payne added that they also responded to another drink-driving incident around 8:33pm where a car crashed into a fence in Moulden.

“The 25-year-old female driver was uninjured, and she walked from the area,” he said.

He also said that police located her a short distance away from the accident scene and she was subjected to a breath analysis. She returned a high-range reading of .171 per cent.”

He did not mention if both drivers had also undergone drug testing.

NT Police will be formally charging both drivers today.

Motorists caught drink driving can face a range of penalties including licence suspension and imprisonment.

According to NT police data, 195 drink driving incidents were reported in the Northern Territory between a 30-day period from December 17, 2018 and January 16, 2019.
