Two males, aged 17 and 20, were charged with aggravated unlawful entries in two separate incidences in Alice Springs yesterday that involved the pair allegedly abusing seniors in their homes, NT Police said.
Around 6 am on Sunday, the two allegedly illegally entered a house on Andrews Court in Braitling, with one of them threatening a 75-year-old woman resident with a blunt weapon before stealing her vehicle keys.
The two offenders were arrested shortly after by Strike Force Viper.
The 20-year-old offender was charged with one count of aggravated robbery, one count of aggravated unlawful entry, and one count of criminal damage. He will appear in Alice Springs Local Court today.
Meanwhile, the 17-year-old suspect was later identified as being allegedly involved in another aggravated unlawful entry at a residence on Memorial Drive in Gillen on January 24, in which a 74-year-old female suffered a broken wrist.
The teen was charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, two counts of aggravated unlawful entry, one count of unlawfully causing serious harm, one count of damage to property, one count of criminal damage, one count of possession of stolen property, one count of stealing, and one count of serious breach of bail.
He is also scheduled to appear in court today.
“It is disgusting that two vulnerable members of our community have been preyed upon in this manner,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Rob Kent said. “There are absolutely no excuses for this violent behaviour and police will continue to ensure these offenders are put before the courts.”
Police said anyone witnessing a crime or anti-social behaviour should call police on 131 444 or in an emergency 000, or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
