I am inclined to believe the statement from the NT Administrator’s office that states that the NT Chief Justice Michael Grant “will assume administration of the Northern Territory Government between 31 January and 27 February 2026”, following outgoing administrator Hugh Heggie’s last day on January 30. Mr Connolly will be “officially sworn in” as the NT Administrator on 27 February 2026.
Would simply reading or tabling Connolly’s disrespectful and deeply offensive comments in the Legislative Assembly breach Standing Order 30? After all – they are his very own words! His swearing in will be a shameful day for the Territory and our Government. Connolly’s infamy should be recorded in the parliamentary record.
So, Connelly can rage-bait post, with any dog-whistling racist, anti-trans, or sexist comment that he chooses, but because he’s been “annointed”…our elected representatives can say nothing in return, because that might be disrespectful? Connolly’s appointment is tainted to the point it’s not viable RF. He should resign to protect the public standing his Office would otherwise have and the reputation of our Territory. If that requires another sinecure ($370k x 3 this time without the harbour view and chef) so be it.
