Two 12-year-old girls have been arrested in connection to a service station robbery Sunday night on the Stuart Highway that saw tobacco and cash stolen, NT Police said.

Police said four female youths entered the service station around 11pm and threatened an employee before stealing the tobacco and cash and fleeing the scene.

The employee was not assaulted, police said.

Strike Force Trident detectives identified two of the girls from CCTV footage and both were arrested.

“Two 12-year-old girls have been arrested and are currently assisting police with their enquiries,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland.

“Investigations are continuing in apprehending the remaining two co-offenders.”

Police did not say if the girls had been charged with anything.

“Anyone who witnessed this incident or who has other information is asked to contact police on 131 444 and quote reference 10020603,” Sgt Bland said.
