A 12-year-old boy has been charged for allegedly stealing a car on Saturday night, and for kicking a police officer who arrested him the next day, as well as three counts of breaching bail, NT Police have said.
Police media manager Rob Cross said in a statement that about 7:00pm Saturday “a group” stole lollies from a Malak service station before knocking over shelves and leaving.
He said later in the night, at an undisclosed time, the group went to the Karama Shopping Centre and allegedly jumped the counter of a shop and stole cigarettes before running off.
A 40-year-old man was standing near his Toyota Yaris in the car park of a residential complex, Mr Cross said, when allegedly the 12-year-old boy pushed the man in the chest and stole his car keys from his hand and drove off.
“Throughout the evening the vehicle was driven to multiple locations before being captured on CCTV refuelling in Durack,” he said.
It is not clear from the police account how many of “the group” were allegedly in the car.
Mr Cross said Strike Force Trident members went to a Malak house the next day and the boy allegedly kicked an officer who was arresting him.
The boy was charged with three counts of stealing, robbery in company, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of damaging property, assaulting police, and three counts of serious breach of bail, Mr Cross said
He was expected to be in court on Monday, Mr Cross said, and said three others were arrested on Monday morning and were expected to be charged as well.
