Liberal National Party announces victory in Queensland state election

The Liberal National Party (LNP) in Queensland, Australia, appeared set to end nearly a decade of Labor government following a recent election, Reuters reported. With votes still being counted, the LNP had a primary vote of 41.9 per cent compared to Labor’s 32.8 per cent. Party leader David Crisafulli declared that voters chose “hope over fear” and supported a majority LNP government. Mr Crisafulli focused his campaign on crime, advocating for stricter measures amid public safety concerns. The incumbent Labor Premier, Steven Miles, took over after Annastacia Palaszczuk, who governed since 2015, retired last year.
