Pro-Palestine activists toss flares at Sydney Opera House, wants Australia to stop support for Israel
Hundreds of pro-Palestine supporters rallied in Sydney throwing flares at the city’s iconic Opera House in a call for the country to drop its support for Israel, NewsHub has reported. As many as 1,000 people took part in the rally, with members chanting “Palestine will never die” and “shame Australia” after Israel formally declared war against Hamas after the Palestinian militant group, which rules the Gaza Strip, launched a large-scale attack on the Middle Eastern country.

Failure of the Indigenous referendum will shame Australia
Voters will bring “shame” on Australia if they reject an October 14 referendum on Indigenous rights, a leading advocate warned Monday, as polls pointed to defeat, ABS-CBN News reported. Supporters have five days left to convince a sceptical electorate to vote “yes” to recognizing Indigenous people in the 1901 constitution for the first time. Australians face a “moral choice”, said Noel Pearson, an Indigenous lawyer and land rights activist who is one of the architects of the “Voice” proposal. “One choice will bring us pride and hope and belief in one another and the other will, I think, turn us backwards and bring shame to the country,” he said.

Australia picks PH as Investment Deal Team location in ASEAN
The Australian government announced on Monday that it would establish an Investment Deal Team in the Philippines to bring Australian investments into the country, the Philippines News Agency reported. Australian Trade and Tourism Minster Don Farrell said the Australian government considers the Philippines as an “extremely important” economic partner, with its demographics and fast gross domestic product (GDP) growth, which is one of the fastest in the world. At least three Australian firms have pitched their investment plans in the Philippines.

Australia LNG unions to go on strike next week as negotiations falter
Union workers are set to go on strike at Chevron’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities in Australia next Thursday, in renewed action that could disrupt about 7 per cent of global LNG supply, CNN reported. Chevron (CVX) confirmed that it had received notice of industrial action scheduled to start on October 19 that would involve work stoppages and partial work bans. The decision to resume a boycott was first announced Friday, two weeks after the company and the Offshore Alliance, which represents two Australian labour unions, said they had accepted new employment agreements proposed by the country’s workplace relations tribunal. The proposed deals had contained improvements in pay and other conditions, leading unions to call off strikes at the time.
