Senate paves way for a landmark referendum on Indigenous Voice in the constitution
Australia’s Senate passed legislation that paves the way for the country to hold a landmark referendum later this year on whether to recognise its Indigenous people in the constitution, Reuters has reported. In a final vote in the upper house of parliament, 52 voted in favour of the bill while 19 voted against it, allowing the bill to be passed with an absolute majority. The referendum will ask Australians whether they support altering the constitution to include “Voice to Parliament”, a committee that can advise the parliament on matters affecting its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people.

Albemarle to acquire Lithium Power International
Australia’s Lithium Power International will sell its wholly-owned unit Western Lithium to the Australian arm of U.S.-based Albemarle ALB.N for A$30 million, Nasdaq.com reported. “Despite the significant progress we had made towards an IPO of Western Lithium in the past months, this asset realisation will provide a significant uplift to the pre-money valuation of our Western Australia asset portfolio,” company CEO Cristobal Garcia-Huidobro said.
