The Australian government has proposed new laws that would place behind bars some of the 141 migrants who have been set free in the three weeks since the High Court ruled their indefinite detention was unconstitutional, ABC News reported. Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil said Parliament would not end sittings for the year as scheduled next week unless new laws were enacted to allow potentially dangerous migrants to be detained.

7-Eleven Australia sold for $1.7 billion
The 7-Eleven Australia chain, one of the nation’s most recognisable brands, has been sold by its family owners to a Japanese company for $1.7 billion, Shepparton News has reported. The Withers and Barlow families have sold to 7-Eleven International, a joint venture between 7-Eleven Inc and Seven-Eleven Japan. The transaction is expected to be completed in the second quarter of next year.

ICTSI to finish Australia terminal expansion this year
International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) said the expansion of its unit in Australia will be completed by yearend, Business World reported. The project is a substantial leap forward for VICT (Victoria International Container Terminal). It will redefine the container terminal landscape at the Port of Melbourne and set new industry standards for operational efficiency and capacity. The expansion project—costing $235 million—would allow VICT to service larger vessels.
