Three youths have been arrested after damaging a Palmerston United servo, including one who threatened to kill the station attendant, during an alleged robbery.

Police said the youths aged 13,15 and 16 entered the station in Rosebery before 10 pm Tuesday and threatened the attendant before trashing the place and stealing items causing extensive damage to the property estimated at around $6,000.

“Serious Crime detectives assessed the scene and identified the youths involved. Detectives located and arrested them in Bakewell around 2 am. They are currently in Palmerston Watch House,” Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier said.

A witness reportedly said the trio started by throwing rocks at the shop’s front windows and then smashed a triple-sheeted glass refrigerator door before attempting to jump over the counter. One teen allegedly threatened the attendant while holding a pair of scissors and a short pole. The teens then fled the station.

The witness said it took 45 minutes for the police to arrive at the scene. The teens will be charged with aggravated robbery, threats to kill and damage to property.

“We will continue to target anyone who threatens violence, damages property or targets those working and going about their business,” Sen Sgt Cottier said.
