Two teen girls and an 11-year-old allegedly carjacked a northern suburbs man on Saturday night, NT Police said, driving off with his car after nearly hitting him in the head with a rock.

Police said they received a report of the incident around 9:40pm Saturday night, which occurred on Mahogany Crescent in Karama.

It is alleged two girls approached the driver and took the keys to the car from his hand.

Police said the victim attempted to hide in the vehicle by locking the doors, but fled out of concern for damage to the vehicle when the girls began waving a stick.

“One of the youths allegedly threw a rock at the victim, narrowly missing him, as the group drove off in the vehicle,” police said in a statement.

“Strike Force Trident investigated the incident and recovered the vehicle around 12:50am.”

Police said a foot pursuit occurred after the car was stopped, but did not say where that occurred.

Three female youths, aged 16, 15 and 11 were arrested.

The two older girls were expected to be charged Sunday, while the 11-year-old “will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act”, police said.

“Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” the statement said.
