An Alice Springs drinking establishment has been banned from serving alcohol for 48 hours after NT Police alleged the bar breached the Liquor Act and posed “a threat to public safety”.
Gap View Hotel, owned by Iris Capital, was served with the liquor licence suspension on Friday, making it the second establishment owned by Iris to recently be shut down for 48 hours.
“Police are satisfied that the actions of this licensee constitute breaches of The Liquor Act and pose a threat to public safety both on premises and in the vicinity of the licensed premises.

“Police will continue to ensure that those permitted to sell alcohol under a license are adhering to all of the conditions, procedural requirements and are diligent with maintaining proper order and control.”
Police did not provide details of the alleged offending.
A spokesman for Iris Capital told the NT News he was not clear on the reasons for the suspension.
“They’re a series of allegations on different days where I believe they’re lacking detail, so we’re investigating further,” he said, adding there was nothing the company could do now to prevent the suspension.
The Todd Tavern, also owned by Iris, was suspended from serving alcohol for 48 hours on January 20.
“The responsible service of alcohol is a legal requirement and police will hold businesses to account,” Sgt Grieve said.
“NT Police are at the coalface of alcohol related harm within our community. No agency has done more to respond to these issues and we will continue to do so across the whole of the NT.”
