A 14-year-old male who allegedly escaped from custody during a court appearance on Friday afternoon and later removed his electronic monitoring device, was also allegedly involved in a violent carjacking early Saturday morning that saw the victim narrowly avoid being hit by another vehicle on Bagot Road, NT Police said.

The 14-year-old and a 17-year-old female were later arrested and charged following a crime spree that included ram raids and thefts of alcohol and cigarettes across Darwin

Police reported that the 14-year-old boy fled from court proceedings on Friday afternoon, removing his electronic monitoring device before a scheduled appearance. Following his disappearance, a warrant was issued for his arrest, and authorities were notified.

At roughly 1:35am Saturday, the boy and the 17-year-old female reportedly approached a man at a service station on Bagot Road, Coconut Grove, grabbing the victim from behind and demanding his keys before a struggle ensued where the victim was dragged towards Bagot Road, narrowly avoiding being hit by a passing vehicle.

The victim managed to free himself and fled a short distance from the scene, police said, however, the suspects pursued him, brandishing a knife and demanding his car keys, forcing the victim to hand over his keys, with the pair fleeing in his Toyota Camry.

The stolen vehicle was then reportedly involved in two incidents where it rammed through the doors of a business in Eaton to steal alcohol and at a convenience store in the Darwin Waterfront precinct for cigarettes.

At around 3:45 am, police spotted the vehicle in Coconut Grove and attempted to stop it, but it fled, leading to a pursuit.

The car was eventually abandoned on Litchfield Court and a brief foot chase ensued, ending in the arrest of the suspects, the recovery of the weapons and stolen items, police said.

The male is facing multiple charges, including breach of bail, aggravated robbery, illegal use of a motor vehicle, driving without a license, reckless driving, two counts of property damage, two counts of ram-raiding, two counts of burglary, two counts of theft, failure to comply with police instructions, dangerous driving during a pursuit, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Meanwhile, the female has also been charged with breach of bail, aggravated robbery, illegal use of a motor vehicle, and two counts of receiving stolen property.

Both suspects will appear in court Monday.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact them on 131 444, quoting reference number P25140704, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
