NT Police have arrested a 14-year-old boy who attempted to escape police on an e-scooter but drove into the waiting arms of detectives who had set up a cordon near the Casuarina bus exchange yesterday, police said.
The 14-year-old was one of two teens arrested in connection to separate property offences in the northern suburbs dating back to Friday.
Police said a 17-year-old male allegedly broke into a Jingili residence in the early hours of Friday morning, stealing “a number of items” including keys and credit cards before leaving the scene in a Toyota Prado that he drove to a local service station and allegedly used the credit cards.
Police said in a statement that Operation Trident members identified the offender from CCTV footage and later located him at Casuarina Square where he was “loitering in a fire escape”.
“Trident and Dog Ops members cordoned off the area which had three separate escape routes. The youth was subsequently arrested without incident and taken to Palmerston Watch House,” said Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Chris Humphries
The teen was charged with aggravated unlawful use of motor vehicle and obtain benefit by deception.
The 14-year-old meanwhile is alleged to have damaged the entrance to a business in Millner on Friday before entering the premises and causing further damage, police said.
“The 14-year-old had been actively avoiding police however, he was located yesterday afternoon at the bus exchange in Casuarina,” Acting Snr Sgt Humphries said.
“The youth was sighted and a cordon was put in place. He has attempted to evade police on an e-scooter but rode directly into awaiting Trident members who arrested him without incident.”
He was charged with unlawfully entering a building with intent, unlawfully damaging property and serious breach of youth bail.
