NT Police used the “Find My” function on a pair of stolen AirPods to track and arrest a 33-year-old man at a Stuart Park residence after he allegedly stole thousands of dollars worth of electronics, sound equipment and cash, among other items from numerous homes, police said.
It’s alleged that between 12am and 5am on Monday, three residences on Ruddick Circuit were broken into and robbed. CCTV footage later identified the man, who was linked to another two unlawful entries in Cullen Bay the previous month.
Through tracking the AirPods, the police were led to the man’s house and executed a search warrant resulting in 85 bags of marijuana and property matching items stolen in the recent break-ins were located.
“The estimated value of the stolen property seized during the warrant is $12,000,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Chris Humphries said.
“Investigators are making further efforts to identify other victims with further charges expected to be laid over the coming days.”
The man was charged with four counts possession of the stolen property, possession of a trafficable quantity of schedule 2 dangerous drug, supplying a trafficable quantity of schedule 2 dangerous drug, and possession of fireworks outside of the approved period.
