NT Police have arrested a 15-year-old male they allege stole multiple vehicles used in a series of break and enters in Alice Springs with other youths, ultimately leading police on a pursuit at one point that was called off after full cans of beer were allegedly hurled at officers from the vehicle.
Police said the youth first allegedly stole a Toyota Troop Carrier from a remote community in the Barkly region late last month before picking up “a number of other youths and driving to Alice Springs”, where police allege the vehicle was used in two ram raids causing extensive damage to two commercial properties.
Police said the group then hit a third property where they allegedly stole a “large quantity of alcohol and cigarettes” before abandoning the Troop Carrier and stealing a Mitsubishi utility vehicle and continuing the crime spree.
It was this vehicle police attempted to pull over, but had to call the pursuit off after one of the passengers started throwing full beer cans at the police vehicle, police said.
“The group later then returned to the commercial property on the Stuart Highway before allegedly smashing the store window and stealing a quantity of alcohol,” police media manager Rob Cross said in a statement.
Police allege the 15-year-old stole a Toyota Rav4 from a caravan park early this month and again using it to ram raid a bottle shop, causing damage and stealing more alcohol.
“The 15-year-old has since been charged and remanded in custody to appear in court at a later date,” Mr Cross said.
“Strike Force Viper are continuing to investigate the incidents and anyone with information that can assist is urged to contact police on 131 444.”
