Teen stabbed to death during ‘community unrest’ in East Arnhem region: Police

A 17-year-old is dead and three other males were seriously injured in the East Arnhem community of Yirrkala following “community unrest” yesterday afternoon, NT Police said.

Reports indicate a fight involving dozens of people of erupted near the oval in town where weapons were used.

NT Police said the 17-tear-old was stabbed to death and three other men, aged 18, 40, and 45, were injured during the riot and taken to local hospital with non-life threatening stab wounds.

“Police were called to a serious disturbance at around 2:40pm following reports of community unrest,” NT Police media manager Rob Cross said in a brief statement.

“A large group of approximately 50 to 100 people were involved in the incident.

“Crime scenes have been established. Additional resources have been sent to Yirrkala to investigate the death and community unrest.”
