A 15-year-old boy has died and two others were injured in a single-vehicle crash along a stretch of Stuart Highway near Coolalinga at 12:15 am on Sunday, NT Police said.

The NT Police reported that the driver of a Toyota Starlet, carrying two passengers, lost control and hit a culvert causing it to roll over and eject the driver and one of the occupants.

The 15-year-old occupant died at the scene of the crash, while the driver and another occupant, both 14 years old, suffered injuries and were rushed to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment.

“Investigations so far have confirmed the vehicle is not stolen and that it was observed driving erratically just before the crash. Support is being provided to the families of the children and to the first responders and members of the public who were on scene,” Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said.

Snr Sgt Linder urged witnesses to come forward, especially those with dash cam footage. “Eyewitnesses can call 131 444, and quote reference 23334120.”

Motorists were diverted to Virginia Road after road restrictions were put in place around Stuart Highway in Coolalinga while police were investigating the crash.
