A 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged with indecent dealings with a child in an undisclosed remote community in the Victoria Daly Region, NT Police said.

Authorities said the incident happened early Saturday morning and the offender was arrested a day later, but a public report was only made two days after the arrest.

Police did not provide details about the case.

The 19-year-old has been charged with one count of aggravated indecent dealing with a child under 16.

He is scheduled to face Katherine Local Court today.

According to the Criminal Code of the Northern Territory, indecently dealing with a child under 16 years of age includes any act which would constitute an assault.

Any person guilty of such offence is liable to imprisonment for 10 years.
