A 16-year-old male has been arrested for allegedly assaulting and attempting to rape a woman on a street in Woodroffe on Monday evening.

Police said in a statement that the woman was sexually assaulted around 7:30pm in the vicinity of Vernier Circuit, in the Palmerston suburb of Woodroffe on Monday.

The statement said the 16-year-old male was arrested a short time later.

“He currently remains in police custody and is expected to be charged with attempt sexual intercourse without consent and aggravated assault,” police media director Mark Wilton said in the statement.
