A suspicious fire in the underground carpark of a Malak shopping centre has caused significant damage to the building’s structure and electrical services, NT Police said, while calling for information from the public about how the Monday afternoon blaze started.

Police said the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received a report of a fire in the underground car park of a shopping centre located in Malak around 1:35pm on Monday that caused considerable damage.

NT Police and NT Fire and Rescue Service responded and successfully extinguished the fire.

Investigations are underway, and authorities encourage anyone with relevant information to contact 131 444, quoting reference number NTP2400128006.

Police did not provide a description of any possible suspects in relation to the blaze.
