Two youths who allegedly carjacked a man at knifepoint at a Wishart service station early Wednesday morning, used the stolen Toyota Yaris to later ram the gate of a home in Malak, NT Police said, before eventually turning the vehicle on police during a pursuit.

Police received reports at approximately 12:45 am that two male youths, aged 15 and 16, had robbed the man at knifepoint, demanded his car keys, and subsequently took his vehicle.

Police said the teens then made their way to Malak, where they reportedly crashed through a gate at a home belonging to a person they knew. Soon after, the stolen vehicle was taken to a snack bar in Winnellie, where it was allegedly used to ram the business.

Members of General Duties, detectives from Strike Force Trident, and the Dog Operations Unit responded.

The vehicle was later spotted in Gray, but failed to stop, triggering a pursuit, during which the offenders allegedly attempted to ram the police vehicles. A tyre deflation device was successfully deployed, resulting in the arrest of the 15-year-old male at the scene.

The 16-year-old was later located and arrested around 7:35am Wednesday morning in Gray.

The 15-year-old was charged with several offences, including aggravated robbery and depriving a person of personal liberty – but the police did not explain the circumstances surrounding that charge.

He was also charged with driving and using a motor vehicle without consent, as well as driving a motor vehicle while unlicensed and five counts of recklessly endangering serious harm and four counts of ram raid.

The 16-year-old male was also charged with several offenses, including aggravated robbery, driving/using/or riding in a motor vehicle without consent, property damage, and attempted aggravated burglary of a building.

Both were remanded in custody and are due to appear in court at a later date.
